Tarle Sukhe , is a delicious and nutritious dish popular in coastal regions. Sardines are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, and protein, making them a healthy addition to your diet. This sukhe has a unique flavor, thanks to the use of kokum and tefla (tirphal), which add a tangy and mildly peppery taste. It pairs perfectly with steamed rice or chapati.

Ingredients:

  • 4 sardines
  • ½ cup freshly grated coconut
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  •               Tamarind and 1/2 tsp dry          coriander
  • 2 kokum
  • 3-4 tefla (tirphal)
  • 1-inch ginger (crushed)
  • Salt to taste

Preparation:

1. Clean the Sardines: Wash the sardines thoroughly, remove the scales, tail, fins, and mouth. Rinse again to remove any remaining blood and scales. Add salt and turmeric powder, then set aside.

2. Prepare the Gravy: Grind the grated coconut with turmeric powder, tamarind, dry coriander and red chili powder to make a thin paste.

3. Cook the Curry: Heat a pan, add the prepared gravy, and let it boil . Then, add crushed ginger and sardines. Cook until all the water is absorbed and the mixture thickens into a paste.

4. Seasoning: Add tefla (tirphal) and salt as per taste.

5. Final Cooking: Cook on low heat until the sardines are fully cooked.

Serving Suggestion: Enjoy this flavorful sardine curry with steamed rice or chapati for a wholesome meal.
