📝 About the Recipe

Squid Chilli, also known as Manki Masala in Konkani, is a spicy and tangy seafood delicacy perfect for spice lovers. Squid, or calamari, when paired with fresh capsicum, green chilies, and Indian spices, creates a bold and flavorful dish that can be served with rice, bread, or chapati.

🧂 Ingredients

  • Fresh squid (calamari) – cleaned and cut into rings or small pieces
  • 1 capsicum – chopped
  • 4 green chilies – slit or chopped
  • 1 onion – chopped
  • 1 tomato – chopped
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1-inch cinnamon stick
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1–2 tsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tsp oil

🍳 Method

1. Prep the Squid
  • Wash and clean the squid thoroughly.
  • Cut into rings or bite-sized pieces.
  • Apply salt and turmeric powder, set aside to marinate for a few minutes.
2. Cook the Base
  • Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan.
  • Add chopped onions and fry until golden brown.
  • Add cinnamon stick and ginger-garlic paste, sauté till the raw smell disappears.
3. Add Vegetables & Spices
  • Add chopped capsicum and tomato, sauté for a minute.
  • Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and coriander powder. Mix well.
4. Add Squid
  • Add the marinated squid pieces, mix everything well.
  • Add a splash of water, cover the pan, and cook until squid turns soft and tender (approx. 5–7 minutes).
5. Final Touch
  • Open the lid and let excess water evaporate.
  • Add soy sauce and tomato ketchup, stir well and cook until the masala becomes dry and coats the squid.
