Breadfruit Rava Fry Recipe | Crispy Goan Style Nirphanas Fry

🌿 About This Recipe

Crispy on the outside and soft inside, Breadfruit Rava Fry is a traditional Goan dish made with neerpanas. It's a perfect side dish for rice and curry, especially in monsoons when breadfruit is in season.

“Nirphanas, or breadfruit, is a tropical delight found in Goan kitchens during the summer. Its soft yet meaty texture makes it perfect for this crispy rava fry, which tastes best with rice, dal, or even as a tea-time snack!”

Cuisine: Goan

🥘 Ingredients

  • 1 small breadfruit (neerpanas)
  • 2 teaspoons red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Rava (semolina) for coating
  • Oil for shallow frying

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Prepare the breadfruit: Peel and cut the breadfruit into medium-sized slices (like wedges or chips).
  2. Marinate: In a bowl, mix chili powder, turmeric, and salt. Apply this spice mix to the breadfruit slices and let them marinate for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Coat with rava: Take rava in a plate. Coat both sides of each marinated breadfruit slice evenly.
  4. Shallow fry: Heat oil in a flat pan or tawa. Place the rava-coated breadfruit slices and fry on medium heat until golden and crispy on both sides.
  5. Serve: Serve hot as a side dish with Goan rice and curry.

🔥 Tip

For extra crispiness, use coarse rava and press lightly while coating
