Varan dal is not made up of onion and garlic. Varan dal can be eaten during the festive season, it comes under Satvik Bojan. The recipe is very easy and requires less effort. tasty yet delicious.

- Toor dal 1/4 cup
- freshly grated coconut
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder(optional)
- 2 green chilli
- 1/2 tomato
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- Pinch of asafoetida
- 1tsp ghee
- salt to taste
- Green coriander chopped
Method
- Wash dal and pressure cook the dal with water, salt, cut tomato and chilli, remove 4 whistles, put off the gas.
- Remove the lid after sometimes.
- Grind coconut, turmeric powder, coriander powder and little cooked dal and make a paste.
- Heat a Kadai add gravy, cooked dal and shimmer it, add 1/2tsp red chilli powder(optional), chopped green coriander in it.
- For Tadka heat 1tsp ghee add cumin seeds, a pinch of asafoetida.
- Add in Kadai which has dal shimmering.
- Serve hot with rice.
