🌼 Satvik Varan Dal Recipe

A no-onion, no-garlic dal recipe perfect for festivals, poojas, and clean eating.Varan dal is not made up of onion and garlic. Varan dal can be eaten during the festive season, it comes under Satvik Bojan. The recipe is very easy and requires less effort. tasty yet delicious.

🛒 Ingredients

  1. ¼ cup toor dal (arhar dal)
  2. 2 tbsp freshly grated coconut
  3. 2 green chillies (slit)
  4. ½ tomato (chopped)
  5. ½ tsp turmeric powder
  6. 1 tsp coriander powder
  7. ½ tsp red chilli powder (optional)
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Fresh coriander leaves (chopped)
  10. ½ tsp cumin seeds
  11. Pinch of hing (asafoetida)
  12. 1 tsp ghee


👩‍🍳 Method

Cook the Dal
Wash the toor dal well. In a pressure cooker, add the dal, 1 cup water, salt, tomato, and green chillies.
Pressure cook for 4 whistles. Let the steam release naturally.

Prepare the Coconut Masala
Grind grated coconut with turmeric powder, coriander powder, and 2 tablespoons of the cooked dal to make a smooth paste.

Simmer the Dal
In a Kadai (pan), pour the cooked dal and ground coconut paste.
Add red chilli powder (optional) and simmer for 5–7 minutes.
Add chopped coriander leaves.

Temper the Dal (Tadka)
Heat ghee in a small pan. Add cumin seeds and a pinch of hing.
Pour this over the shimmering dal.

Serve
Serve hot with steamed rice or phulka for a wholesome satvik meal.
