๐ฏ Sheera (Sooji Halwa) – Goan Sweet Delight
Sheera, also known as Sooji Halwa, is a rich and delicious semolina dessert. It’s often prepared during festivals or offered as prasad during poojas. This version has a slight crunch and a lovely golden hue — perfect for everyday indulgence!

๐งพ Ingredients
- 1 cup sooji (semolina/rava)
- ¼ cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- 3–5 tsp ghee (clarified butter)
- ½ tsp cardamom powder
- 2 cloves
- A pinch of food color (optional)
- A handful of cashew nut pieces, badam (almonds), and raisins (optional)
- 2 cups hot water
- A small pinch of salt (balances the sweetness)
๐ช Method
Roast the Semolina
- Heat a thick-bottomed pan. Dry roast 1 cup sooji with 2 cloves until slightly warm and aromatic.
- Add 2 tsp ghee and food color (if using). Sautรฉ till the sooji turns light golden and nutty in fragrance.
Add Water & Cook
- Slowly pour in 2 cups of hot water, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
- Add a pinch of salt, cashews, almonds, raisins (if using), and cardamom powder.
Finish with Sugar & Ghee
- Once the water is absorbed and the sooji is cooked, add sugar.
- Stir well. Add the remaining ghee and continue mixing until the sheera thickens and leaves the sides of the pan.
Serve Warm
- Garnish with extra nuts if desired and enjoy warm!
