Ansache Tonak, also known as Pineapple Sasav, is a much-loved Goan dish made in almost every household. The curry beautifully blends the tropical sweetness of pineapple with coconut, tamarind, jaggery, and a mild spice kick. Despite its sweet taste, pineapple is low in calories and high in vitamins, antioxidants, and enzymes that boost immunity — making this dish both delicious and nutritious.

📝 Ingredients
  • Finely chopped pineapple
  • 1 cup freshly grated coconut
  • Small ball of tamarind
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • Jaggery (as per taste)
  • Few curry leaves
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp oil
  • Salt to taste

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Chop the pineapple into small pieces and keep aside.
  2. Grind coconut, tamarind, chili powder, and jaggery into a fine paste using a little water.
  3. Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves; let them splutter.
  4. Add the chopped pineapple. Cover and cook until soft.
  5. Add the ground coconut mixture and salt. Mix well.
  6. Cook on medium flame until the raw smell disappears and the curry thickens.
  7. Serve hot with chapati or Goan bread (pao).
