📝 About the Recipe
Xinaneao (pronounced shi-na-ne-yo) is the Konkani word for mussels, a type of shellfish found abundantly along Goa’s coastline. While mussels are often prepared in a spicy coconut-based gravy, this recipe features a quick and delicious Rava Fry version, perfect as a side or starter.

- 5–6 fresh mussels (Xinaneao), cleaned
- ½ cup rava (semolina) for coating
- Salt to taste
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- Oil for shallow frying
🍳 Method
- Wash and clean the mussels thoroughly under running water to remove any grit or dirt.
- In a bowl, add the cleaned mussels.
- Add salt, chili powder, turmeric powder, and ginger-garlic paste.
- Mix well and let them marinate for 5–10 minutes.
- Take semolina (rava) on a plate.
- Coat each marinated mussel well on all sides.
- Heat a flat pan (tawa) with oil on medium flame.
- Once the oil is hot, gently place the coated mussels on the pan.
