Goan Drumstick Dal Recipe | Moska Saanga Bhaji with Coconut Masala
🌿 About This Dish
Drumsticks, known as Moska Saanga in Konkani, are a staple in Goan cooking. They add a unique flavor and nutrition to dishes like Suki Baji, Rasa, Khatkhate, and Dal. This simple and comforting Goan Dal with drumsticks is a wholesome meal served best with steamed rice or roti.

🥥 Ingredients
- 3–4 drumsticks, peeled and cut into pieces
- 1/2 cup toor dal (split pigeon peas)
- 2 green chilies
- 1 cup freshly grated coconut
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
- Small ball of tamarind
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt, to taste
- Water, as needed
👩🍳 Method
- Peel the drumsticks and cut into 3–4 inch pieces.
- Soak toor dal overnight. Next day, pressure cook or boil the dal with the chopped onion until soft.
- Grind freshly grated coconut, tamarind, turmeric powder, and coriander seeds into a thin paste using little water.
- In a pot, add drumsticks, chopped tomatoes, green chilies, salt, and enough water. Cover and cook for about 10 minutes.
- Add the cooked dal and the ground coconut-tamarind paste to the pot. Mix well.
- Continue boiling the gravy until the drumsticks are tender. Add water if the gravy becomes too thick.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
